Congratulations to our Transition Services and UT Charter School graduates!
The day before Methodist Children’s Home became Malcolm’s new home, he had a sleepless night, worried he might miss his admissions appointment the next morning. Accountability and punctuality were values his military father instilled in him at an early age and would be what he relied on as he navigated the path that led him to MCH.
Building bridges did not always come naturally for Hawa. After struggling to form secure attachments with caregivers, Hawa made the personal decision at age 13 to come to Methodist Children’s Home and learn how to build connections and reach her potential. In 2012, she moved to the Waco campus where her journey began.
Congratulations to the graduates and soon-to-be graduates from our Transition Services program!
Methodist Children’s Home has one of its own on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tenika lived at MCH for four years and graduated from Waco High School in 2001. Today she is a mother of two boys, ages 13 and 4, and spends her nights working as a nurse in the neuro-intensive care unit at a hospital in Houston.
Tianna became a resident at Methodist Children’s Home at the age of 14. Today she is a senior at the MCH charter school, looking toward her future and feeling grateful she had a place to grow.
Jaelyne knows what it takes to succeed. His personality and ambition are driving him to build a better life for himself. He has come a long way since arriving at Methodist Children’s Home in 2013 at age 13.
As high school graduation approaches, students at the Methodist Children’s Home (MCH) charter school have been preparing for their futures. Throughout the school year monthly meetings are held for the juniors and seniors. These meetings provide consistent opportunities to answer questions and help make individual post-graduation plans. MCH currently has 12 seniors and 18 juniors. […]
It hasn’t always been an easy process, but Rainn has turned hard times into learning experiences and used them to become stronger. At age 11, Rainn and her sister were removed from an abusive home by Child Protective Services. For the next few years, they moved between foster homes before ending up at an emergency shelter in 2015. It was there they learned about Methodist Children’s Home.
Passion, a quiet 19-year-old with a bright but shy smile, had a tumultuous childhood that saw her moving between parents and schools on a regular basis. A case manager from the nonprofit Communities in Schools referred Passion to The Cove, a new nonprofit in Waco offering students dealing with homelessness a safe place to study, shower, wash clothes, and receive a healthy meal. Graduating and aging out of The Cove’s services presented new challenges for the girls, who weren’t ready to be on their own. That is when Atkinson reached out to Jeff Creel, MCH program administrator for school and transition services, to see if MCH could help.
