It was an honor to host a first-time visitor to Methodist Children’s Home today who actually shares in the heritage of MCH. Pat Garrison of San Antonio is the great-grandson of W.F. Barnett, who served as administrator of MCH from 1919-1933.
Sunshine has served as the flagship publication for MCH since the first issue rolled off the presses in 1920. Through the years, the publication has shared a message of hope to readers through stories and photographs that communicate the life-changing mission of this ministry.
Methodist Children’s Home has ministered to children, youth and families for 130 years. MCH began the next chapter of its legacy with the unveiling of a three-year strategic plan in July. The theme of the plan is “Building on a Strong Foundation.”
As part of the Building Hope capital campaign, Dorothy DeShong, Mamie Mitchell, Prothro, Price, and Zimmerman homes will be replaced with four new homes that will better meet current licensing standards and the needs of children and youth today and in the future. In this story, MCH pays tribute to the families who provided these homes.
The Howard Home first opened its doors on October 10, 1925, and served as a haven of shelter and an environment to foster growth and renewal for hundreds of young people.
In 1971, Tim Brown came to Methodist Children’s Home looking for a job that would allow him to complete his college degree. What he found was a distinguished career that transformed his life and the lives of many others.
We had a wonderful time during our 2019 MCH Alumni Homecoming! Each year since 1921 our alumni have returned home during Easter for a weekend of fellowship, shared meals, and worship. (Click on an image below to launch slideshow)
