The Methodist Children’s Home Alumni Association (MCHAA) gathered in Waco during the Easter weekend to celebrate its annual homecoming reunion. The homecoming tradition began in 1921 as a way to help former residents remain connected to their friends and the ministry, making this the 101st anniversary of the first gathering.
Alumni and their families held their annual craft sale, auction and gatherings at the Waco Hilton. Attendees’ children and grandchildren participated in an annual Easter egg hunt on the MCH Waco campus and alumni toured the Waco campus and Boys Ranch, received a ministry report from MCH President and CEO Trey Oakley and shared stories and pictures of their time growing up at MCH. The Association recognized Debbie Daughtery, the daughter of an MCH alumna, for her honorary service to the group and presented the Distinguished MCH Staff Award to Ken Simons, who served as an athletics coach in the 1960s and 70s. Alumni and their families worshipped in the Harrell Memorial Chapel and enjoyed their traditional Easter Sunday luncheon before returning home.
Happy 101st Homecoming to our alumni! “Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love…[w]hen we asunder part, it gives us inward pain; but we shall still be joined in heart, and hope to meet again.”
