The experience was twice as sweet for the Methodist Children’s Home track and field teams when the Bulldogs swept the team titles for the first time in MCH history at the Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship state championships.
The achievement also was a first for Coach Darell Williams, whose men’s squads won the team title in 2023 and 2024, and finished as runner-up last year.
“We made history again and it’s because our young men and women trained hard every day,” Williams said. “They deserve it!”
MCH was one of 13 schools at the TCAF state meet held April 25 at Springtown ISD’s Porcupine Stadium. The team championship was the first ever for the women.
“Our teams really came together, worked hard and persevered even when the races or events were tough,” MCH Director of Athletics Sarah Arocha said. “We are very proud of each of our student-athletes.”
The MCH women handily won the team championship, racking up 171 points, well ahead of the 86 points for runner-up St. Paul’s Preparatory Academy of Arlington.
It was closer on the men’s side, but the Bulldogs’ first-place finish in the last event, the 1600-meter relay, secured the victory over Grace Christian Academy of Perrin, 167-137.
MCH won all three men’s relays, the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400, while the women took first in the 4×200 and 4×400.
Deja led the scoring for the women with five medals, winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes and as a member of the 4×200 relay. She placed second in the long jump and third in the high jump.
Amarie grabbed gold in the high jump, 100-meter hurdles and the 4×200 relay.
De’Unique took first in the long jump, while her sister won the triple jump. De’Unique came in second to Deja in the 100-meter dash.
Stephanie placed second in the triple jump and was third in the 1600-meter run. Gracie came in third in the 800-meter run.
For the men, Londen Bickham capped his senior year by winning the 100-meter dash, anchoring the final leg of the winning 4×100 relay, and placing third in the shot put.
Senior Damien DeLaCruz won the 400 individually and was on the winning 4×100 and 4×400 relays, anchoring the final race of the day.
Colin placed second in the 200 and third in the long jump. Caden had two third-place finishes in the 800 and 1600 runs. John had a third-place finish in the triple jump.
