The Christmas season is celebrated in a variety of ways at Methodist Children’s Home. Activities, many steeped in tradition, include the Carols and Candles worship service in the Harrell Memorial Chapel and “Perkins Parties” in each home on the Waco campus and Boys Ranch. Day Students attending the University of Texas—University Charter School on the MCH campus also have a special Christmas party before the end of school.
Carols and Candles features Scripture readings and Christmas music performed by MCH youth. After the service, young people return to their campus homes for food, games and gifts where they celebrate with staff and other youth in their home. A history of the Perkins Party – first held in 1938 – is read aloud to the youth to remind them of the generosity of friends and donors who make Christmas a meaningful and memorable season for those in our care.

My husband and I both grew up there. We loved the Perkins party. It made us all feel the spirit of Christmas.
