Q & A with Jasmine

Jasmine is a resident on the MCH campus in Waxahachie. She has made a lot of progress since being at the Home. She sings in the school choir, takes piano lessons and loves to write poetry and short stories.

We sat down with Jasmine to learn more about her journey at MCH.

Jasmine and two of her mentors

Q: What have you learned since being at MCH?
A: I have learned to live with a lot of different people and be more respectful to adults. I do not seek out trouble like I used to. I try to be a positive role model for my peers and for my younger siblings when I go home on visits.

Q: Has there been anyone that has been instrumental in helping you grow since you have been at MCH? A: Ms. Marilyn and Ms. Jean have helped me a lot. They are always there to listen to me when I am upset and give really good advice. Sometimes I cannot talk about my feelings so I write them down. Ms. Marilyn and Ms. Jean always take time to read my letters and poems.

The following is a poem written by Jasmine that she was willing to share with everyone.

By: Jasmine, MCH Waxahachie campus

One day I asked the Lord…
Why should I try to
do some things that
are almost impossible to do?
Why should I try to
change my life to make it
perfect and all that I want it
to be if there’s a one in a million
chance that it would turn out the
way that I want it to be.
Why should I believe in what
might never possibly happen?
To believe in what I dream about
knowing that they’re just dreams
and will never come true.
“Why should you try?” He replied back to me.
“You should try because I want you to.
You should try if you want to be successful in life.
You should try for the sake of your mother, your father,
your brothers and sisters.
For the sake of your own life.
You should try if you do believe that you can really, truly,
and fulfillingly believe that you can accomplish your wants and needs.
You should try if you believe that your future is in your hands,
that because it is…you can make it to whatever you desire it to be.
You should try because giving up is for the weak that don’t believe.
You should try because it is the right thing to do.”
And because of the words He told me..
I began to always try. To never give up in life.
Because after all…
Why Try?
