Photo of Conner, Methodist Children's HomeConner, a resident on the Waco campus, participated in the UIL Solo and Ensemble competition at Waco High School in February. Conner received a perfect score of “one” and will be advancing to the state competition in Austin in May.

We caught up with Conner to learn more.

Q: How long have you been singing?
A: I have been singing all my life but I was too shy to do it in front of others. My sophomore year I was encouraged to try out for our school musical. I got the role of lead villain in the musical “Little Abner”. My music teacher immediately put me in choir the next year.

Q: How has MCH helped you?
A: MCH has given me the opportunity to continue with my interest in music. I have been able to take voice lessons from the Department of Vocal Studies at Baylor University. My coach is very supportive and helped me pick the right song to sing for my competition.

Q: What do you look forward to at the state competition?
A: I look forward to the overall experience and getting feedback from the judges on how to improve. These opportunities have helped me work through my shyness and handle the jitters.

Good luck Conner!
