Q & A with Phillip and Tristan

Christmas through the eyes of children is magical. At MCH, we hope to make Christmas a special time and show God’s love to the youth we serve. Phillip and Tristan, youth from our Waxahachie campus, talk about what Christmas is like for them at the Home. Both boys have lived on the Waxahachie campus since early 2009. They share their memories and favorite things about Christmas in the Q&A below. Pictured below are Phillip (left) and Tristan (right).

Q: Why do you look forward to the holidays at MCH?
Phillip: I’m not going to lie – I look forward to the presents! It’s a really fun time and being here is like being with a new family. I also like spending time with the staff and other kids at my home on the Waxahachie campus. All the staff take the time to celebrate with us and that means a lot.
Tristan: I love that I get to see my family. I spend time with them, help out around the house and play with my siblings.

Q: What’s the best gift you’ve ever given someone for Christmas?
Phillip: I gave a paint-by-number poster to my aunt. She loved it. She always hung all my artwork on her walls.

Tristan: I gave my grandmother cinnamon and vanilla candles last year. She loved them.

Q: What's the best gift you’ve ever received for Christmas?
Phillip: A digital camera. This year, the Home is making us calendars from the pictures we took. I’m excited to see mine.
Tristan: A Nintendo DS – I love that thing!

Q: Do you have any favorite Christmas memories at MCH?
Phillip: Last Christmas when it snowed – my friends and I played in the snow like little kids.
Tristan: That was fun. We built a fort out of the snow. It was like three feet deep by five foot high. It took forever to melt! I also have memories of friends of mine who left the Home. I like to stay in contact with them.

Q: What’s your favorite thing to do during the holiday season?
Phillip: I like to spend time with the people I care about.
Tristan: I clean. I really like to clean around the holidays.

Q: What is your favorite Christmas movie?
Phillip: I like the Perfect Holiday.
Tristan: I like Elf and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

Q: What is your favorite Christmas treat?
Phillip: Fudge. I love fudge, without nuts. I don’t like anything with nuts.
Tristan: I love chocolate chip cookies.

Q: Do you have any New Year’s resolutions in mind?
Phillip: I’m not sure yet. I’m just thinking about all the Christmas cookies to come.
Tristan: I’m going to try to start doing better in school. I’ve actually already started my resolution. I recently brought three of my grades up and I’m going to keep it going in the New Year.
