Waco 125th

Spotlight on Waco Family Outreach
Throughout 2015, Methodist Children’s Home (MCH) is commemorating its 125th anniversary. MCH not only offers hope to children, youth and families on the Waco campus and Boys Ranch but extends the same hope through our Family Outreach offices across Texas and New Mexico. Throughout the year, these individual Family Outreach offices are being featured to highlight the uniqueness they bring to the communities they serve.

Brooke Davilla, outreach director said, “We offer intensive in-home case management for families grandparents or other relatives who are parenting children, group support and several different parent education programs.

“In Waco, there is a poverty rate of 30 percent which has a huge impact on lives of children and families,” Davilla said. “Waco is an amazing community that cares about their neighbors. Our staff works hard toward alleviating some of the systemic struggles by using the training and knowledge they have in trauma informed care and understanding the impact poverty can have on families.”

According to Davilla, “Every day I have the honor of working alongside an incredible team serving our community in the most tangible ways. Frederick Buechner defined vocation in this way: ‘The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deeper hunger meet.’ I am fortunate to be at MCH where I can fulfill career aspirations while being in tune to the calling God has for me.

“When someone in our community asks, ‘Can we trust you?’ I can answer with an emphatic Yes because we have been here caring and offering hope for 125 years,” she said. “Those of us who are currently working here are simply a small part of the long legacy that has gone before us and that will continue on for years to come.”
