Spotlight on Tyler Family Outreach

Methodist Children’s Home (MCH) Family Outreach offices serve communities throughout Texas and New Mexico. To commemorate our 125th anniversary, each office will be featured to highlight the uniqueness they bring to the communities they serve.

The MCH Family Outreach office in Tyler was established in 2006 and provides a variety of services to strengthen individuals and families, including foster care, Family Solutions, and Grandparents as Parents Program (GAPP).

The Tyler Family Outreach office serves individuals and families in Smith County and the surrounding areas. “The challenge that is specific to the Tyler office is the need for more prevention services in rural communities that are outside our servicing area,” said LaTasha Hickman, outreach director. “Our office staff are addressing this challenge by offering parenting classes in those areas. It gives us the opportunity to educate clients on different skills and techniques they can use to become nurturing parents.”

According to Hickman, “What makes the Tyler Family Outreach office unique is that it is the largest foster care office in the MCH agency. We have strong connections to our community and partners and go above and beyond to provide the highest quality of care to our foster children and services to our clients.

“The biggest joy I have in working for MCH is that it is a Christian organization that believes in the power of prayer, treats staff with dignity and respect and celebrates its employees’ accomplishments,” added Hickman. “Being part of an organization with a 125-year history indicates a strong foundation of offering help and hope. It means that God and prayer have been the glue that has held this agency up.”
