125 Years of Methodist Children's Home

Lubbock 125th

Spotlight on Lubbock Family Outreach

Throughout 2015, Methodist Children’s Home is commemorating its 125th anniversary. MCH has been blessed in these 125 years to extend our services beyond the beautiful Waco campus and Boys Ranch to outreach offices located in Texas and New Mexico that provide services to families and children. Throughout the year, the individual Family Outreach offices will be featured to highlight the uniqueness they bring to the communities they serve.

The MCH Family Outreach office in Lubbock was established in 1988, and provides a variety of services designed to strengthen individuals and families, including Family Solutions, the Grandparents as Parents Program (GAPP) and Parent Education.

“What is unique to the Lubbock office and is also one of our greatest challenges is that we not only serve the city of Lubbock, but the vast rural area,” said Dana Bearden, outreach director. “The Lubbock area is made up of communities that lack services for children and families and transportation is often an issue.”

According to Bearden, “Our staff works hard to build connections in these rural areas. Often families are reluctant, timid and not open to new and unknown agencies. Each connection we make is valued and considered a success.

“It is the connection we have with the families and walking alongside them through their journey that is the biggest joy for us,” added Bearden. “Being able to offer hope is huge.”

Bearden said, “The 125-year history of MCH has shown that we are a stable agency committed to serving others. We are able to use that tradition as proof that we are dedicated to the MCH ministry and able to grow to meet the changing needs of the families we serve in our communities.”
